Structure, Vision and Objectives

Who are we?

The Vietnamese Intellectual Society (VIS) is a professional volunteer-based society of Vietnamese academics and experts living and working in the United Kingdom (UK) and the Republic of Ireland. Following a long preparation, VIS UK & Ireland was formally established in December 2020 with the support and recognition of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Vietnam and the Vietnamese Embassy in London.

By the end of 2022, the society has brought together about 100 members of whom 95% are academics (from PhD candidates to professors) working in more than 30 disciplines at over 60 higher education institutions in the UK and Ireland. There are currently a few members who are experts and researchers working outside academia. The membership is set to grow in the future. VIS UK &Ireland also forms part of the Vietnamese academic diaspora globally.

Our vision and objectives:

– To foster connections and collaborations among VIS members in the UK and Ireland, and build bridges with their global networks.

– To strengthen academic linkages with Vietnamese partners to contribute to the socio-economic development and international integration of Vietnam.

– To engage in people-to-people connectivity and enhance the ties between the UK, Ireland and Vietnam.

Our organisation structure:

The Annual General Meeting (AGM) is the highest decision making body. The VIS programme of activities is designed by an Executive Board elected at the Annual General Meeting with the support of a Secretariat. VIS members meet quarterly and participate and contribute to all VIS activities and initiatives. The Executive Board also receives support from the Honorary Chair and an Advisory Board.
