Launch of VIS Coffee Talk series

In March 2023, VIS will be launching a new series called “VIS Coffee Talk.” This is a biweekly online 30-minute format featuring predominantly two speakers (mainly from VIS, can be external occasionally) to talk about their research, their work, experience or a specific exciting project. The idea is to help VIS members know more about each other, facilitating potential joint work and collaboration, strengthening our community. Other purpose/benefits will of course be to expose VIS members to potential research students, external partners from the UK and Vietnam, etc. The series will also promote and seek opportunities to build relationships between the UK and Vietnam in many areas such as (but not limited to) education, science, technologies, business, finance, law, and environment. It will operate in an MC (or anchor host) led format in the likely structure below:

  • Quick update from VIS Chair or Co-chair on VIS businesses/activities (if any) (1-3 minutes)
  • Talk 1 (8 minutes)
  • Talk 2 (8 minutes)
  • Society announcements (funding calls, opportunities, recruitment, promotion, awards, other good news all around within VIS, etc) (3-4 minutes)
  • Q/A to two speakers (7-10 minutes)

We wanted the format to be short and sharp within 30 minutes (like a coffee break), but frequent enough to allow VIS members to keep up-to-date with latest research, news and activities all around, while keep the time to a minimal level. Two series each month are to be held at lunch time (starting 12:30pm) on the first Thursday and third Thursday each month, starting from 2nd March 2023.

The target audience will be of course our VIS members first. But we will open the platform publicly to other groups (student groups, other Vietnamese society, audience from universities in Vietnam, businesses, etc). Recorded videos of the talks will be available from VIS YouTube channel.

Schedule of upcoming talks and archive of past talks can be found here. Below you can find the poster of the first series Talk #1.
