On 4th May, the Vietnamese Intellectual Society (VIS) in the UK and Ireland joined other Vietnamese communities in the UK to welcome Vietnam’s state president Vo Van Thuong on his official visit to the UK to attend the Coronation of King Charles III. The event was organised at the Embassy of Vietnam in the UK right after the president landed at Heathrow airport. Witnessed by Ambassador Nguyen Hoang Long, Prof NguyenXuan Huan (Chair of VIS) gave a short speech to President Vo Van Thuong and the delegation, introducing the Society, its mission, activities as well as its next goals. Prof Nguyen restated VIS’s main goals of building a solid community of Vietnamese academics and experts in the UK and Ireland, working with the Embassy of Vietnam and other communities to promote and develop Vietnam – UK collaboration and relationships. The Chair of VIS also stated the desire from the Society to contribute to the activities in or towards Vietnam that have high impact. President Vo Van Thuong spoke highly of the communities in the UK and promised to find a way for Vietnam to utilise more the intellectual resources overseas such as VIS.

On behalf of VIS, Prof. Nguyen Xuan Huan received an art gift from President Vo Van Thuong to mark the occasion.
